Many a struggling musician sees YouTube as a discovery platform par excellence, and eagerly uploads all his promotional videos and live clips there in the hopes some A&R men might catch wind of them. That’s something which seldom happens, though. It’s not just that too many aspiring musicians are doing exactly the same thing, and hosting their clips there for industry types to see. That’s certainly a big issue, but what makes things harder than they should be is that these videos become lost in the deluge of cat, baby and who-knows-what-else videos that people upload so enthusiastically to YouTube.

Enter YouNow. It’s a social video site that is meant to be used solely by artists looking to be discovered. They can have their clips played live on the site, and people can vote on them. If they get enough positive votes, they’ll keep on streaming and streaming. And if people vote them down, then that’ll be the end of their fifteen minutes of fame. It’s as easy as that.
