The Vietnam War occurred between nineteen fifty nine and nineteen seventy five. It was a Cold War battle fought between the communist North Vietnamese and their allies and the United States supported South Vietnamese. The war ended in defeat for the United States, the American troops withdrew from the country after the fall of Saigon. The war as a whole represented a large failure of United States foreign policy.
