Got Some Exciting Startup News To Share? Here Are Five Essential Twitter Tips To Spread The Word

Twitter – you love it, hate it or are totally indifferent. Regardless of your Twitter party preference, there’s no denying the significance it can have on your business… if it’s used efficiently that is. For me, it’s a powerful tool to get the word out on cool startups and entrepreneurs I have the pleasure to write about. Fine, so I only have like 30 followers, but some of my followers have thousands of their own; they re-tweet something of mine and BOOM the article spreads like wildfire. Awesome, right?

And, there’s even more ways you can utilize our little birdie platform to get your business news out to the tweeting masses. Here are five Twitter tips you should definitely start using.

1. Tweet your story in chunks

The 140 character limit of Tweets probably won’t cover all the deets of your story. Solution? Tweet it in “chucks” over time—this way more people will have a chance to catch a part of your story and retweet it within their network.

2. It’s all about the #hashtag

Still don’t really know how to use that weird #hashtag thing? Here’s the deal: choose important words of phrases of your story, put a hashtag (that’s this guy- #) in front it and anyone interested in that hashtag (ahem, bloggers, journalists, etc.) will be able to check out your story and ….our favorite word….retweet!

3. Jack the news

Newsjack highlights important trends and events in the news on Twitter. If your story relates to it, hashtag and summarize your news to tie into the mix of conversations and reach more relevant followers.

4. Don’t be afraid of a little blog action

Breaking out of the traditional press release style and jumping on the blog bandwagon by adding a more personal touch and then tweeting it will make your news release more relevant and interesting. And, people will get to have your perspective on a bigger topic (and hopefully stay in touch with your what you’re doing).

5. Put it on video

If you’re super excited about your news, then there’s no better way to express it than on video! Create a short clip explaining what your big story is all about and share the link on twitter. It’ll give your news a more personal and exciting approach and people will be likelier to share across their networks.

Bottom line: don’t be afraid of our dear friend Twitter. With a little effort, relevant topics and engaging conversation, Twitter can be a powerful tool to get the word out there about your business’s story. So, what are you waiting for? Go forth and Tweet the good news!
