What’s Really Powering The Internet? (Infographic From Flippa)

by Matt Mickiewicz

You don’t get to $90 million in website and domain sales without learning a few things along the way. At Flippa.com, we see hundreds of new listings every week, and keep a close eye on the trends. What’s most in demand? Which types of sites are no longer popular with buyers?

We took data from the last year of website and domain sales (that’s $26 million in total) and found some interesting takeaways on what buyers are looking for compared to what’s currently on the market. The highlights of all this data are in our most recent infographic (see the full-sized graphic here), first published on The Next Web.

Notably, demand for the most popular ecommerce platforms changed dramatically, with 35 percent more demand for Shopify and a 31 percent drop in demand for Magento (ouch!). And while WordPress is still the dominant CMS for Flippa listings (and, indeed, for the Internet as a whole), it’s outpaced by both Drupal and Joomla when it comes to average selling price.
