What would a record label that is run by the public look like? That is an interesting question in itself. And it turns out the answer is right under our noses. This new site provides it.
Named Crowdbands, it can be defined as a label that is run by punters. The idea is that fans determine exactly which songs the bands that are on the label should record and where they should play live. Not only that, people can contribute lyrics to be used by the bands, and even create music videos for their favourite clips.
This is all very original, and if the idea was never tried before then I suppose that is because not many bands would be willing to let others exert so much control over their careers. I know more than a good couple of musicians myself that would look down on this concept, claiming that doing something like this would be akin to becoming mere puppets.
However, any band that came together under the sign of the Social Web will tell you a different story. They would be naturally attracted to something like this, if only because they realize the potential that limitless interaction with their fans can have in the long run.
