Who Needs Judges When The Crowd Knows Who Deserves To Be The Next Superstarred

Would it surprise anyone that talent contests are about to receive an online makeover?

Given the popularity of prime time network contests, it’s surprising that we haven’t seen more attempts already to create an online version of an American Idol or America’s Got Talent.

Well, Superstarred isn’t going to let the next big thing be discovered by the old tastemakers again. This platform hosts singing contests and other competitions ruled by the online crowd. Not only does the audience vote on Superstarred – with the potential to win prizes for voting – but contestants are rewarded for interacting with people – by answering questions and performing requests.

Timing is perfect for Superstarred. All the elements are there. The rise of crowdsourcing, the popularity of the talent show format, the ease of YouTube videos, the sway of social media… Don’t you wish you’d put this one together first?

Check out the ongoing singing contest and cast your vote before the close on September 29th. Co-founder of Superstarred, Adam Szabo, tells us more about the next-gen talent contests:

What’s your company about? What do you do? Who are your customers?

Superstarred is an entertainment platform. We host talent contests in many different categories.

What’s the greatest thing about your company/website? Why is it better than the competition?

Superstarred is the first-ever talent contest where interaction is rewarded. Contestants receive bonus points for answering fan questions and fulfilling song/cover requests.

How’d you come up with the name for your company?

Our mission is to support talented creators on their way of becoming superstars. Lets get Superstarred!

What time do you usually start work each day? How many hours a day do you usually work?

We start around 9 AM. 10-14 hours a day.

When’s the last time you went on vacation and where did you go?

Couple weeks ago we went to see the Plitvice Laks in Croatia, It’s a stunning place.

When do your best ideas come to you? In bed in the morning? During dinner? On your third beer?

During late afternoon brainstormings with my co-founder.

How many people did you start the company with and how many people work for you now?

It’s only two of us for now.

A lot of people have big ideas. What gave you the confidence to actually go after yours?

We are best friends with my co-founder since forever. The lack of trust issues makes us a great team.

Remember the early days of starting up? Describe the struggles you went through.

We actually enjoyed the early days of planning and founding of company. Bureaucracy could be smaller though.

How do you handle frustration? What has been your biggest professional frustration?

Taking a day off is the best method, I believe. No memorable frustration comes to my mind, just lots of small ones.

What’s your office environment like? Do you listen to music? Watch movies? Play video games?

We work from home (in one house). The place is usually silent, just the sound of clicking and typing. Occasionally we watch YouTube videos or play some games.

How do you picture your company in 5 years?

We want to do more than just talent contests. Superstarred has the potential to evolve into a talent management powerhouse with offices around the globe in 5 years.

Who or what inspires YOU? Role models? Quotes? Running? Video games? Snack food?

TED speakers are my main inspiration. My favorite quote is: “Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground” by Theodore Roosevelt.

How’d you fund this venture? VC? Self-funding? Crowdfunded? Where’d you get the money, man?

We are currently self-funded and looking for funding.

Got any great bootstrapping tips for the lean startups out there?

Cold emailing works if you’re honest.

What other advice do you have for other entrepreneurs struggling to get started?

Think twice before you start, this lifestyle is not for everyone. If you really want it: team up with people who share your vision and just do it.

What would you do if you had a year off and $500,000 to spend (on something other than work)?

Travel around the world with my girlfriend, visit all the places on our bucket list.

Do you consider yourself a successful entrepreneur? If not, what’ll make you feel successful?

I’m just at the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey. I will consider myself successful if Superstarred has tons of happy and engaged users.

What is your music streaming player of choice, and what are you listening to right now?

I use YouTube for music. Black Keys are the best! I’m also starting to fall in love with some covers our contestants have in the Singing Contest on Superstarred.

Number 1 country you’ve always wanted to visit but haven’t yet? (And why that country?)

US! (I’m from Central Europe). Would love to visit the West Coast, all the national parks, Las Vegas, Los Angeles…

Three people (other than you) we should follow on Twitter and why?

Where else can we find you online?
