    ULoop.com - The Student's Craigslist

    uloop

ULoop could be thought of as the young love child of Craigslist and Facebook; or one might say it’s just another online classifieds sites, with a special focus. It’s meant for students—to join you need an .edu email address. Once you’ve registered you can sell your books, trade your LP’s, search for an apartment or roommates, and promote your band—all without charge. Landlords and employers can also post using their regular email addresses; however, there are fees involved. So far ULoop has links with several universities in California, Oregon and Washington; they’re looking to expand, so you might find them at a university near you.

    In their own words

“Uloop empowers students to buy, sell, promote and trade with their classmates. We started in January '07 at UC Santa Barbara with amazing success. Thousands of students are using Uloop to sell their textbooks, find roommates, events, housing, campus jobs and even rides home!”

Why it might be a killer

ULoop’s posting board is a great way for students to find what they need without having to pay or contend with the crap that’s out there. Besides fitting the student budget, it’s geared to student interests—since the posts are by students, for students, it’s more relevant.

    Some questions

How is ULoop going to compete with Craigslist et al? Universities usually have student classifieds in place, will they want to switch to ULoop? What does it cost for landlords/employers?
