TalkBean.com - Be an Online English Tutor

    talkbean

Because English is still the most universal language, there is a high demand for English tutors. This is particularly true in the Asian world, where it is difficult to find enough native english speakers. So, this websites aims to connect native speakers with english students in places like Korea and China. The process is simple: you sign up as a student or tutor, post a lesson and fee, and find the right match. You just need the internet, a web cam, and a headset. Lessons can be given using voice, video, text-chat, or whiteboard. The site also features a built-in rating system so that those tutors who are rated highly by students appear higher on the list of available tutors.

    In their own words

"TalkBean is a global e-learning market place of Tutors and Students. Newly founded in January 2007, it is endorsed by Asia's largest internet companies including Interpark Corporations of South Korea to form Interpark Communications (Delaware Company).TalkBean allows tutors to easily post lessons on www.TalkBean.com and earn tuition fees by tutoring students from around the world via the Internet. Everyone can teach on TalkBean. Students connect with currently available tutors through "Live Tutoring", find lessons related to their hobbies and interests, and make schedules for future lessons through "Reserved Lessons". As more teachers and students post different lessons, TalkBean is empowering them to provide the ultimate e-learning market place of the future."

Why it might be a killer

This site epitomizes how the internet is making our world a very small place, which I can only hope leads to greater peace and understading (well, a girl can hope anyway...what we really probably need is this site in the middle east). I love the premise and execution of this site; it is professional, user-friendly, and benefits all parties involved.

    Some questions

Do they offer teaching tips for tutors? Or a small training course for lesson plans and approaches? Do they have any testimonials they can post on the site yet, to demonstrate the success of this kind of teaching format? Have they had any problems with students not paying or teachers not going online for reserved class times?
