Established in 2002 without any major capital, Spreadshirt now employs more than 230 people and has expanded in Europe and the USA. Spreadshirt was awarded the Futuresax in 2002 and 2006 as well as the Hewlett Packard Business Innovation Award in 2004. The company was nominated for the category Aufsteiger des Deutschen Gründerpreises (up and coming German start ups) in 2005 and won the German internet prize. Spreadshirt has recently made it into the Top 5 European Growth list "Europe's 500"."
Why it might be a killer
Spreadshirt fulfills personal branding needs with custom apparel allowing customers to show who they are through shirts, shoes, bags and more, with affordable prices, fast delivery, and no minimum quantities. It brings people a great way of self-expression. The site has good functionality. Buyers can find what they like quickly, then save their favorites, and simply purchase what suits their fancy. Sellers can add designs, or designs and apparel combined, they can offer their creations without worrying about managing inventory, accepting credit cards, manufacturing, shipping, or customer service. Shops are easy to set-up and manage. Set-up takes only 10 minutes. They have recently added some of the now-common Web 2.0 features, like comments and ratings, the ability to email designs or apparel, and quick integration into blogs or other Web sites.
