Fididel.com - Haggle for Goods

Haggling as an art has escaped from its previously defined boundaries- principally Turkish bazaars and flea markets- and come to the internet. Fididel is an online marketplace where price bargaining is expected on all sides. Fididel (pronounced “fih-diddle”) is the first online forum to engage in these patent-pending “real time negotiations.” Sellers own an online store, and post items at a given price to the website. Buyers can then “fididel” with the vendor via online messaging, until both reach a mutually agreed-on price for the product. Fididel offers products in a plethora of categories, ranging from books to consumer electronics to jewelry and watches.

  In their own words

“Fididel was founded on the premise that e-commerce should be about bringing buyers and sellers into what we call a synchronous state. That is, the seller and the buyer are always in pricing alignment when the final purchase occurs.”

Why it might be a killer

New platforms and rules for selling always have the potential to be the next eBay. What is great about Fididel in comparison to the online auction site is that the seller has more say in the final price. The price point really will reflect an equilibrium in which both parties in the sale should walk away satisfied.

  Some questions

Won’t hagglers tend to be more willing to compromise in face-to-face interactions? I have a suspicion that without live contact, buyers and sellers will feel less invested, and less shy, and therefore be less willing to change prices drastically. And what happens when you want to haggle but the seller is offline? Do you trade emails?
