DesignerPages.com - Product Design Architecture Network

    designerpages

DesignerPages aims to make designing a much more efficient process. To that end, they've developed a social application for connecting community members and facilitating product fabrication. Members get a profile (of course) with contact info and products uploaded. Products can be searched directly by name or through category. Once the desired product is located, the user will be taken to the product page where they can speak directly to the product suppliers. The Workspaces are designed to help users decide what products to use via discussion and sharing with team members. On the producer side, DesignerPages offers up to date stats on how often their products have been viewed or added to a workspace, along with top search terms, top products, and top referrers. Registration is required.

    In their own words

"Designer Pages is an online product manager that helps you locate the latest
products with up-to-date specifications. All products are posted by suppliers
themselves, which means finding more information is only a click away
Designers do not have time to manage a materials database. Suppliers want their product offerings in front of designers. Our solution provides suppliers a means to create exposure for themselves, removing this responsibility from designers. The result is a self-maintained materials library that never misses a beat.."

Why it might be a killer

DesignerPages has developed a tool which is rather unique in its field. It gives product suppliers a direct line to their customers, while also giving them an indication of how their products are faring and how better to market them.

    Some questions

For a design oriented site, DesignerPages could use a little more innovation in is interface; it lacks a certain panache. It's not clear how they're going to attract users, nor how they plan to monetize this.
