On the site you’ll find a showcase of T-shirt art designed by experienced artists. Each artist is handpicked from around the world. Find cool, avant-garde designs and buy them. Most shirts run around $20, give or take. If you haven’t quite got the cash to purchase, you can still vote for the best designs or enter the T-shirt design contest and submit your own creations. Shirt of the Month will bag you $1750. Non-artists can earn DBH dollars by submitting photos of themselves in DBH shirts. There’s also the social bit. Users can browse the Humans and look at artist profiles and designs. To enter contests, vote, and earn DBH dollars you’ll need to register. Window-shopping is free.

The thing that sets DesignByHumans apart from other T-shirt sites is the artwork. It’s actually quality stuff that you’d want to wear. Of course the contests add that DIY aspect and the Tell-A-Friend marketing earns you money (prize money’s not bad either). It’s a bit of everything. But if you’re a real T-shirt aficionado and you’re into art and culture, chances are you want something that will up your level of hipness. Wearing the design of some bored small-towner doesn’t have the same effect as professional art. Gotta love the umlauts too.

There are so many T-shirt sites around. Too many perhaps. DesignByHumans is remarkably similar to Threadless and DNA StyleLab. Would be nice to see more artist-community interaction, the ability to bookmark fav artists for instance. Also widgets?
