Splurb.com - Gauging Popularity In A Different Way

Aggregators come in all shapes and colors. The content, though, does not change that much. This new online resource aims to make something of a difference by highlighting stories in a different manner. The basic premise is that these stories that do become listed on Splurb are featured because they have been included in more than one popular social site. The links are then sorted not only by popularity (a la Digg) but also by the actual number of sources. The concept is nothing radical, but it gives every item that is featured at least an added ounce of credibility.

FamiliLink.com - The WWW & Older Family Members

With the possibilities that the social web brings in terms of connectivity, it is certainly a shame that older people are sometimes left out of the picture because they are not proficient enough so as to sit in front of a desktop and find their way there. This is all the more disappointing if only because elder individuals crave for human contact more than anybody else. Just think how realized they would feel if they could immerse themselves in something like Facebook, watch the drawings of their grandchildren and keep in touch with the activities of their sons who ...  read more

    AuthorMapper.com - Mapping Authors Out

In today’s global society, we often come across articles from authors hailing from places we can just not pinpoint. Of course, if we come across an article penned by a certain Takahashi Tanaka we know where does that person come from. The same goes for an article authored by someone named Alessandro Luca. But what if the writer is named Luis Perez? Or John Stewart? How can we tell the writer’s country of origin? A site like Author Mapper has just surfaced in order to tackle that conundrum.

Generally speaking, it is a search engine that will empower you to ...  read more

Tweetrad.io - This Is Radio Twitter

Some of the recent rush might have evanesced, but Twitter is still standing proud. In fact, this week the very first tweeting device ever was released by Peek. Whether it catches on or not is besides the point – it just underlines how popular Twitter is. To think that a company saw enough commercial potential to release a device that does not even let you navigate the Internet or check your e-mails is amazing. So is the never-faltering stream of Twitter apps, of which Tweet Radio is the most recent exponent

Ibizaah.com - Get The Party Going

Those who are in a festive mood should head straight to this site. We could say it is a resource that will let you provide the right backdrop to any party by setting music and some sound effects at will.

To begin with, the site will enable you to play not one but two songs simultaneously (one on each speaker), and set the balance so that if you want one to be the predominant tune you can do it effortlessly. The songs themselves are culled from YouTube, so that you are likely to find - if not the exact song you were after - at least a remix that will do ...  read more

NeedCube.com - Turning The Search Process Around

NeedCube is quite an interesting site. It can be defined as a sort of reverse matching mechanism for people's needs. That is, instead of executing a search when you need to find anything, here you can set down what it is that you want and be notified the moment it becomes available.

You are asked 5 simple questions when you are specifying what you need: “what”, “when”, “where”, “how many” and “for how much”. You are not actually required to categorize what you need, and you are saved the hassle of registering to several sites servin...  read more

Ninite.com - Installing Multiple Apps Simultaneously

The most heinous aspect of upgrading to a new OS is that you have to install everything from scratch again. That is so unpalatable that I am surprised there are not a hundred applications like Ninite already available. To put it in simple words, it is a kind of wizard that will let you choose which apps you want to install from a list, and then sit back and stretch while the installation process goes into autopilot.

Some of the apps and tools you can install using Ninite include web browsers, messaging tools, media players and antivirus software. The full list...  read more

Twanye.com - Making Comparisons Like Kanye West

Good Ol’ Kanye West. He has been the talk of the social web for some time now. And as if he hadn’t been parodied enough for his “outburst”, now we have yet another site that humors the whole incident. In this specific case, though, the site has something of a useful purpose since people can compare different items and products through it. That is why the developer of the site terms it a comparison engine.

The way it works is as simple as 1-2-3. You are provided Kanye’s by-now classic remark, and you have to fill in a couple of blanks – namely the person or produ...  read more
