Yalicoo.com - Virtual Trading, Real Profits

Yalicoo is a stock trade simulation game where users choose to play on one of the several available modalities: daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly competitions. The goal is to generate the most valuable virtual portfolio and to make virtual money. Users can see and be seen by other users in real-time (just 5 minutes delay), so they can make informed decisions and build competitive strategies, or rather learn from the top players. The best players get real money prizes, which they receive via PayPal. In order to play Yalicoo users need to be over 18 and pay an entrance fee that varies according to the players’ expertise and the kind of competition he/she wishes to enter (quarterly are the most expensive, but rates are not disclosed). Other special features included on the site are the Y Academy and the Glossary, which are guides aimed at beginners and advanced players to get their way not only around Yalicoo but around real life investments as well.

  In their own words

“Yalicoo is the only stock trading simulation where you can trade and view all investors' portfolios LIVE. All stock quotes and portfolios update in real time and you can monitor the other players' trades. You can win cash prizes for creating a winning virtual portfolio. You can watch the portfolios of all traders, learn from their winning strategies and benefit from their expertise and research. Yalicoo is about fun and competition. Improve your trading skills or prove just what a star trader you are!”

Why it might be a killer

Yalicoo is a really good way to learn how to make stock investments without substantial losses, in the sense that you get to trade on your own but also to peek at what the big fishes are doing and learn from them, which is something you would normally not be welcomed to do. The site’s multifaceted features that allow to game, learn and earn money definitely make it eligible to become the next killerstartup.

  Some questions

The fact that you can actually make investments and trade stocks online for real profit, make the game a bit unattractive for pro users. There is not much advantage for them to play at the site and win a fraction of what they could win making real stock trades. As a result, the site probably never gets a fixed audience, as it seems sensible that when stock traders become confident in their abilities they go to the real market to make some investments. Is there any way they can think of making strategic alliances with educational institutions in order to secure a regular flow of players?

I've participated in Yalicoo Competitions and they are both fun and useful to real life. The good traders have made over $10,000 in prize money-- IMHO that's a nice sum even for serious traders!
