TwitterLocal.net - Find Twitterers Near You

    twitterlocal

Does a day go by without a new Twitter app being made? Apparently not. Here’s another one for you. TwitterLocal is a rather cool new Twitter app which lets you filter out Tweets by location. You can generate an RSS or XML feed to pull up Tweets from a certain area as specified by city, state, postal code, and a mile radius you want to include. Once you’ve got those deets typed in, press the handy ‘Go’ button and you’ll instantly get URLs to add to your feed reader. There are two options for you to choose from. First you’ve got your basic web app which works perfectly well in your browser, and then you’ve got the desktop version built on Adobe Air. The latter lets you track tweets and show friends’ timelines and replies. You can also send updates. You do have to download Adobe Air first.

    In their own words

“TwitterLocal lets you generate an RSS or XML Feed to filter out Tweets around a certain area. Just enter a city, state, postal code, choose the range of miles you want to include, and hit the button. You'll instantly get URLs to add to your RSS reader.”

Why it might be a killer

TwitterLocal adds an interesting dimension to Twitter. Geolocation tech is quite popular these days and it gives you interesting insight into just what people are doing where. I imagine those interested in gathering stats about Twitter users will be able to use this to tune into specific communities. It could be leveraged for marketing or for other apps.

    Some questions

Will your average Twitter user be interested? Is it merely a novelty or will it actually be used and applied regularly? Do we need more stalking tools?
