Twitter Census offers users an easy and economical way to create and administer mobile surveys. Users submit a survey question via twitter (they must include a specific hash code so that Twitter Census can distinguish the results), and those in their twitter community can immediately respond. Twitter Census then organizes the results (and standardizes the answers) to create a panorama of the community’s answers. Questions range from highly contextual and personal (what sort of transportation a group of friends should use to get to a concert) to general (who will win the presidential nomination).

Twitter Census is a great example of a twitter add-on that makes life easier. Instead of using Twitter to broadcast person information about the author, Twitter Census allows for interaction among everyone in a community. For specific and personal surveys among groups of friends (for example, deciding where to go to dinner), it makes decision making more efficient and democratic.

Can responses be even more standardized? Right now, Twitter Census combines Web2.0, Web 2.0, and web20 into one answer, but other answers are less clear. For example, a question about Axe body spray elicited four negative responses, but because the specific wording varied so much (it smells bad, I don’t like the way it looks), this overwhelmingly negative response is not reflected in the results.
