Tipstrs.com - Solving the World´s Problems One Tip at a Time

    tipstrs

Did you know that you actually shouldn´t change your car´s oil every 3,000 miles? Or that you can get your songs´ lyrics and album art for your iTunes for free? These are just two things I learned while checking out Tipstrs. Tipstrs combines general advice and tip sites with social bookmarking tools. That way, when you find a tip, if there´s somewhere that has more information or the tip deals with a specific site offering a deal on a product that you´re interested in, you can get it all on one site. If you can´t find any tips for the category you´re searching for, then be a helpful browser and contribute a tip. Each time you check out a tip, you can comment on them, check out other tips that person has given, or check out other tips with the same tags, or other pieces of advice with similar tags. It´s kind of like free electrons, in that you can start searching for one thing, and end up on a completely different tangent because of finding a tip related to what you originally searched for that intrigues you, taking you down a completely different train of thought.

    In their own words

“The intention is that tipstrs be used as a hybrid of a social bookmarking site, and the variety of sites that offer tips, and advice on particular topics. Instead of having this information spread across scores of sites, tipstrs is designed to accommodate it all.

Why it might be a killer

It´s a useful combination of site tools, and the range of information and subjects is vast. The site has only gotten started and already there are tons of interesting tips, so that if you visit the site and they don´t have what you´re looking for, you can still leave feeling satisfied and having learned something new. It´s unique in that instead of you asking a question (Ask.com), they provide all the tips right in front of you to browse through. As a result, people will spend more time on the site and will go just to see what the latest tips are, instead of only when they have a question.

    Some questions

How will they keep spammers away or self promoters? How are they marketing themselves to get the word out, since their site depends on a lot of participation?
