    theCityList.com - Cities´ Movers and Shakers

    thecitylist

theCityList is a collection of lists that are based on places submitted by users organized in to lists of the best of the city in many different categories. The ratings are updated weekly, telling you now many spots each place has shifted, and how many votes for “yes” and “no” were made for the place. Reviews from known sources such as newspapers can be found, and users can comment on their experiences and check out any other information on the place there. There are many many lists, ranging from the top places to see live music to the top apartment buildings to the top Mexican food places. Everything is submitted and voted on by users, so rankings and places should be based on the best according to common experience, versus locations advertising for themselves. Currently they are only available for Washington, D.C., but for a person who grew up there, they have come up with some decent lists, including places that I´ve enjoyed, but also listing a whole bunch of places I´ve never heard of and would want to check out.

    In their own words

“theCityList is a user powered service for ranking places within a city. Who has the best pizza? Where is the best Happy Hour on a Tuesday night? Our lists are generated by users voting for or against their favorite [or least favorite] places. We have hundreds of lists and update them weekly.

Why it might be a killer

People are constantly looking for new things to check out, and cities are too big to know everything that´s going on, so collecting everyone´s knowledge is a great discovery tool for new places. If local people agree that certain spots are the top in the city, those are places anyone will want to go to to get the local perspective and experience. The site is well done, and people will be checking out the site to see where they should be checking out and to see how their places are doing in the rankings.

    Some questions

How will they insure that spamming wont happen from places in the city? When will they add new cities? How will they get the word out about their site?
