    TellMeWhere.com - A Worldwide Geo-Wiki

    tellmewhere

TellMeWhere, or dismoiou en francais, wants to catalogue the world, wiki-style, starting with your favorite places. Users are encouraged to submit descriptions, photos, and comments regarding their local areas. You can search for particular locales and see what´s hot and what´s not; you´ll find maps, recommendations, and reviews. As the site is based in France, the majority of the content stems from French locations, although other European countries are covered as well. All content can be reused in other sites, blogs, etc. The site employs Google maps and geotagging; subjects can be searched through by categorical tags and keywords. Currently the site´s in private beta, so it´s invite only, but there is no cost to use it.

    In their own words

“Tellmewhere.com is a global internet site which allows you to research and share local information.

Why it might be a killer

TellMeWhere is ambitious, the world is a big place after all, but it plays host to some useful information; the site is easy to navigate and so far it´s chalk full of info about France. Of course it still needs to expand its user base to include more countries, but it has potential.

    Some questions

Those Google maps are so slow to load, it would be nice if they were an optional feature. As with any network, TellMeWhere depends on the number of users it can attract; so far, it´s mostly a French user base, which is great for France, but that leaves the rest of the world out.
