Tangler is like a combination of a chat room and a discussion forum. You can go into any group and add your comments, and they appear in real-time for anyone reading the group of comments. You can embed videos and pictures, and it´s all organized and in a format that´s nice to look at and read. If you want to see what topics are getting the most recent action, you can check that out and see what´s been recently posted. If you don´t find a topic covering what you´re interested in, no problem, just create your own group for people to start chatting in. It´s easy to read an entire discussion stream so that you can get up to date with what´s been said in the group and then join in. If you´ve commented to a certain thread, they´ll keep you posted as to if new comments have been made in the group so that you can check back. The real-time addition of comments is really what makes it a nice way to discuss topics and feel part of a community, plus the fact that their current featured groups include a whole bunch of web 2.0 and beta testing areas.

“Imagine if you took all the forums, groups and websites where you talk about all the different things you are interested in and put them in a single system. And then you upgraded them all so they made the most of new internet technology like Ajax to make the discussion real-time (fast) and rich media (pretty with pictures and videos). Then you´re starting to get an idea of what Tangler is building. We´ve nicknamed it commversations - community conversations.

It´s the new way to discuss topics and keep track of them. It takes the chat room and forum and combines them in a way that is professional, crisp, and easy to use. They have a lot of participation going on all over the site, and the fact that they notify you when a topic you have participated in has received an addition makes sure you keep checking back to those groups.

How are they planning on making their profit from this site? There are a few things that could make the site a bit more social, such as maybe extended profiles. Because of the amount of groups you could be participating in, it would be cool to be able to save certain comments or sections of group discussion, or to be able to find old spots in a conversation more easily, since as membership increases, so will comments, and it´ll be annoying to have to keep scrolling through to find your way back to where you left off.
