Sweetter.net - A Better Implementation of Twitter Maybe

Sweetter is an opensource Twitter-like service (or Twitter clone, might better describe the service). It’s microblogging combined with Pligg style voting. So you can write whatever you want—about that pie you ate, or about a new site you found—however, if the crowd doesn’t like your posts, you can lose karma points. Like Twitter, there is a 140 character limit. But beyond that, you’ve got points and a ToDo system. This means you can send a sweet (basically a tweet) giving someone a task to do. You gain points by having more followers and having your sweets voted for in a positive manner. The whole objective is to become juaker, meaning you’ve got 25 or more points. You don’t want to be a ‘looser’ which means your points run into the red. Sweetter has plug-ins for Twitter, Jaiku, and you can make your own.

  In their own words

“Sweetter is a open source and fun microblogin service. Sweetter 2.0 are being developing by SUGUS (group of GNU users from the University of Seville).”

Why it might be a killer

Sweetter may be simpler than Twitter. It’s open source and it has added dimensions. Some may like the voting system; this may actually filter through the inane posts which many complain about on Twitter. It’s also more interactive than Twitter as you can send commands, and earn points.

  Some questions

Will Twitterers convert? Will this become a refuge for those who aren’t satisfied with Twitter? So far, the audience is largely Spanish, as this is a creation from the University of Seville, will the English speaking world pick up on it?
