    SpotJots.com - Microblogging Plus Geolocation

    spotjots

Spotjots is a new microblogging service, a la Twitter, which throws in geolocation and mapping so you can share your life in real time wherever you are. What you get is something of a combination of Google Maps, Vox and Twitter. Users can send in updates which are geolocated and mapped out for friends to see. There’s mobile integration, although it’s still being worked out; currently you can use SpotJots with a few Nokia phones and Blackberries. iPhone support is on the way. SpotJots features widgets which can be placed on your social network profiles or blogs; you can also send your jots to Facebook, Typepad, Blogger and even twitter. There are RSS feeds as well.

    In their own words

“Let your friends and family experience and follow your life…as it happens. Share what you’re doing from the web, or capture your experiences in real-time using your phone. Social, in a spatial way.”

Why it might be a killer

Although the concept isn’t exactly new, this service combines media rich microblogging and geolocation put together in one place. Users are able to create some cool maps and updates. The overall feature list is pretty strong, although there is work still to be done.

    Some questions

When will we see more phones added to the compatibility list? This service is much like Twitter and Plazes, will it be able to reach critical mass? Will users be willing to sign up for yet another microblogging service?
