Soashable.com - An Open Source Meebo

Whose familiar with Meebo might have a feeling of déjà vu when they first enter the Soashable website and that feeling would be warranted. Soashable is in fact more of a clone than it is a new concept but it does differ in at least one important way: Soashable is an open source project meaning that anyone can download it and build their own version of the site. Soashable is currently in beta and does not have all of the features that Meebo does, like games, chat rooms or a developer platform. What it does provide is multi-protocol, web based chat which developers can take and do what they like with. So if you are looking to develop something similar, why not cut some corners and take a look at Soashable.

Soashable is a group of projects that aim to raise the bar for web-based social software. The current objective is to create an open-source Meebo clone.

The platform is intriguing since it is IM based which offers a more real-time interactive experience amongst members. Since it is open-source, look for this to become an important platform by which many others begin their projects.
