SkiSpace.com - Bode Miller's Wintry Twist on MySpace

Skiing mogul (no pun intended) Bode Miller has released a new community, SkiSpace dedicated to help fans of powder connect with other skiers, snowboarders, and winter sports fanatics in general while letting you access up-to-date information about ski resorts (trails and lefts open, snow base, etc). Once you create your personal profile (called your “base camp”) on the site, you can add and invite friends to join and start hooking up with potential skiing or boarding partners.

Basic profile settings include a comment wall, a thumbnail photo, blogs, and the standard personal/contact information section. Profiles can be elaborated with videos and photos, as on other social networks, and you can browse through similar media on other peoples’ profiles (depending on privacy settings) to see who shares similar ski interests. Alternately, you can find buddies by their “Home Base”, i.e. which mountain or resort they frequent the most. You can message users privately, or post on their comment walls, including a photo if you choose. As you browse the site, your “base camp” will constantly be displayed in a mini-window, sending you profile alerts and even giving you the latest weather forecast and snow information about your home base. Looking to get away from your “home base”? Use SkiSpace’s “Resort” section to browse for hot slopes in the US and internationally. SkiSpace provides relevant resort info to help you make a travel decision, including vertical drops, trails, and difficulty. Once you’ve decided where you want to go, take advantage of SkiSpace’s partnership with Travelocity to help you find the cheapest flights, and score some hot new gear for the slopes with SkiSpace’s merchandise section.

    Skispace.com In their own words

“SkiSpace is a new social networking and information site just for skiers, snowboarders and winter sports hounds. Bode Miller in conjunction with PathConnect, LLC created SkiSpace to answer a need in the community for an all-encompassing customized experience that puts members right where you want to be.

SkiSpace was developed to let you connect with other skiers, boarders and snow sports fanatics, while keeping you up to date on the latest news and snow reports. Our features also give you the ability to share photos and videos, even from your mobile phone. But we wanted to go a lot further and make this a primo site for helping you plan your snow adventures, snag the best travel deals and hottest resorts, and outfit you with the greatest selection of gear you can find. The whole reason we’re here is to make your ski-centric life as easy as it is exciting”

    Some questions about Skispace.com

Will it take more than Bode Miller’s fame and questionable reputation to lure users to this site? It remains to be seen whether such genre-specific social networks will ever draw even a remotely significant number of users away from Facebook and MySpace.

Why Skispace.com might be a killer

SkiSpace boasts a massive collection of fun and informative ski tools and information. Not only is it easy to connect with other winter sports lovers, it’s also a breeze to map out your next ski destination and book flights there, without ever leaving the SkiSpace site.
