In their own words
"Nowadays people turn to the web if they want the best deal on a product they are purchasing. Similarly, we built Skillance so people can turn to the web to get the best deal on a service they need. For example, if you want a website designed but cannot afford to pay a company 1000's of pounds or dollars, wouldn't you rather just go to a web designer directly who can charge you a fraction of the price? The same concept can be applied on any professional skill or service you require. Companies also look for skilled professionals so they can hire them for contractual purposes and short-term periods."
Why it might be a killer
Finally, freelances have a place to advertise their skills to people who are actually interested. The greatest thing about Skillance is that it leaves the door open for all sorts of work possibilities; one-time gigs, temp work, or full-time employment.
Some questions
The site is currently in its beta release and still seems somewhat limited for this stage of the game; do they plan on adding more detailed profiles with more options and features? Why can't people upload photos of themselves or of something that represents their skill?
