SciVee.tv - Disseminating All Things Science

    scivee

In the constantly evolving and changing world of science, simple and rapid access to information is key. A group of scientists who felt that scientific dissemination was in need of a transition from text to multimedia have collaborated and produced SciVee, an online social network where members of the scientific community can collaborate to generate and revise articles, create personal profiles, and publish their work online. The community revolves around the site’s main upload feature, which lets all users can post their articles and append them with a video to create a “SciVee”. These “SciVee”s can then be reviewed by others, modified as necessary, and then contributed publicly to the network. Currently, SciVee has only released its alpha version, which is operating on all levels except for the “Connect” function which allows users to join communities. Sign up to stay tuned for the Beta release.

    In their own words

“SciVee is about the free and widespread dissemination and comprehension of science.
SciVee, created for scientists, by scientists, moves science beyond the printed word and lecture theater taking advantage of the internet as a communication medium where scientists young and old have a place and a voice”.

Why it might be a killer

The best of category-specific Web 2.0. Boasting partnerships with several prolific organizations including the National Science Foundation, SciVee should catch on among the scientific community not only as a valuable educational tool, but also as a mechanism for maximizing the dissemination of scientific information as quickly as possible.

    Some questions

When will the communities be completed? What options will the personal profile pages feature? When will the Beta version be released? For a scientific website, SciVee could have more partnerships, are there plans to take on more?
