    Newgie.com - News Feeds Worthy of ´Newsiness´

    newgie

Traditionally, newspapers, magazines and Dan Rather decided which news stories were worthy of coverage. With Newgie.com, those who are receiving media converage will also be deciding which news stories are worth “newsiness.” Kind of sounds like some variation of Colbert"s “truthiness” and if they"re lucky, equally as catchy. Newgie users view their news based on newsiness ratings as determined by other users. You are reading all the same news stories as you would typically be viewing from trusted media sources, except you"ll be reading the “newsiest.” The site doesn"t rely on a voting mechanism, but instead implicit actions as performed by the user, such as views per page, bookmarking and recommendations. Users will then be able to find news stories based on subject and newsiness.

    In their own words

“Newgie.com is about delivering the news that people are interested in most. Historically people have had to rely on media providers to not only deliver quality news stories but also to determine which stories are newsworthy enough to merit front-page status. Newgie uses the attention given to each news story by its readers to determine which stories are the most “newsy”. News still comes from the same reputable news sources that people are accustomed to using, but rather than viewing news as pre-packaged by the media, Newgie users view their news based on its “newsiness”, as determined by their peers.

    Some questions

Might they also include a widget to feed you news stories as you are surfing other sites, a news ticker that updates you and allows you to rate the news stories to weed out the ones that you didn"t find relevant or interesting? This would, in turn, make the feed smarter and increase usabilty and satasfaction.
