Merichaupal is a sort of What’s Up India social news/Indian smorgasbord site. It delves into such things as social issues, politics, entertainment, sports, education, and health. Users can submit news items or stories and create polls, comment, and vote. This is all under the tab labeled Chaupal. Under Aapne Kaha, you’ll find stories pulled from the blogosphere with links to the blogs themselves. Next we have Kuch Kaho, in which users can actually collaborate on books, by writing pages or by positioning the pages in the right order, or by creating topics for discussion in the forums (which can be found under the next tab titled Masala Ghar). On the site’s main page we have nicely laid out CIA facts about India (population, median age, etc.), along with the day’s top headlines.

Merichaupal is rather all over the place. Merichaupal needn’t be a reflection of the chaotic jumble that you’ll find in India itself. The pages are cluttered and unfocused and there’s no big draw. It focuses on too much and therefore nothing at all.
