Running since 1996, this site is devoted to alleviating the somewhat pain-inflicting experience that can be learning a new language. Browse through the Tools for learning Chinese (dummy-proof Chinese characters flashcards are featured), plus the Tools for using Chinese will come in handy, specially if you are looking for a dictionary and converters; in the Chinese Reference area you will find several interesting stuff, like a calendar or currency converter. Last but not least in the web-app area, where you can download for free some patches and useful apps for offline work or web-developers.

"These pages hope to provide tools to assist people in learning and using the beautiful Chinese language. From the novice Chinese language student to the advanced programmer, I hope there is something here for everyone. Rather than being a Chinese language course, it provides tools to people who are already studying and using Chinese".

Some of the available apps are exclusive to mandarintools.com, and indeed seem to be very useful. The fact that they are available for free is of course a good plus.

The immense amount of competitors dedicated to language-teaching, and to Chinese in particular makes it specially though for this site to survive on no advertising, contributions, sales or patents. How are they going to tackle this issue?
