    Listphile.com - Community-Powered Lists

    listphile

Ever wanted to add media and detail to lists, but found web applications too limiting? Listphile allows you to make the meatier lists, databases, and atlases you've been longing for. You can make lists social, so that everyone can help to contribute to the list of gifts for geeks, best Chuck Noris quotes, or best spots to buy pizza in NYC. Lists can be viewed in multiple ways, such as in the original list form, by thumbnails, or by map. More views will be possible as the site continues to build. If the list has been under construction for awhile, you can check out what the most recent additions are, or check who's made which contributions.

List items aren't just a line of text. They are data rich, including anything from videos and pictures, to wave heights and links to more information. Another cool feature is the ability to create lists that members of the community can vote on, such as posts of pictures of people's pets and a vote on which one is the cutest. As you can see, the options are limitless. To create lists for your business or just for fun, use Listphile to get the most of what the web can offer.

    In their own words

"Listphile is a powerful tool for organizing and collaborating around structured information. Call it a database tool, if you will (but please don't scare anyone away).

Listphile was borne of curiosity, and the belief that we learn more effectively when we have a framework for collaboration and knowledge sharing.

It is my intention that Listphile will be used in ambitious and open ways: make a publicly shared database of all baseball players who ever played in the Major Leagues. It is also my dream that Listphile will be used for humanitarian purposes: create a list of journalists who are currently imprisoned, or a list of peace treaties. Listphile can just as easily be used to document vintage Nike sneakers, or to create an Open Surf Atlas of all surf spots on the planet, or document all of the beers in the world.

So dream big, or dream small. Invite your friends, and have fun. Take advantage of this flexible and deep tool to free up information to the world."

Why it might be a killer

No other listing service offers so many options and the capacity to upload and share multiple forms of data in a list form. The site is easy to navigate and allows you to view the information in various formats. It's all free and already has a lot of interesting lists to browse and contribute to.

    Some questions

How will they be making a profit from their service? How will they protect against spam?
