KyaKare.com - Event Calendar for India

    kyakare

Answering the question, ‘What’s up India?’ we have the brand new, subcontinental event calendaring site KyaKare. KyaKare, whose name stems from the Hindi word meaning, What do I/we do? currently covers the metropolitan areas of Mumbai, Bangalore, and Kolkata. What you’ll find is a smorgasbord of event listings covering all areas of interest for each calendar day. The homepage showcases the day’s events, events coming soon, just posted, and most viewed. You can also search for events by category, e.g. college zone, dance, eating, health, art, deals, courses, seminars, and movies. Each listing contains a short description, time, address and language. To add an event, simply enter in location, type, times, dates and a description along with your email address—registration is not required. RSS feeds are also available.

    In their own words

“Kya Kare in Hindi means “What do I/we do?”. It’s a common question used in India to figure out what to do next. We thought this would be quite an apt name for an events listing site.

For any event related information I had to look in the paper and could never find this data online, so we thought that it would be quite useful to have a site that lists this information. We’ve kept the site quite simple and utilitarian, without fussing too much on look and graphic elements. The site is a platform for discovering and sharing events. It’s totally free of cost and a not for profit site.

We’ve built this site during our free time and has been launched on September 16th 2007.”

Why it might be a killer

KyaKare covers a wide selection of events in several large urban areas in India. As the question of what to do is one that never seems to end, this site will surely prove popular especially as it’s rather easy to use and read.

    Some questions

KyaKare needs to work on its presentation. Events could be listed in bolder, more legible type. Also, I imagine that such cities as Mumbai already have some form of event calendaring, can KyaKare gain a viable readership?
