In their own words
"Let's face it – staying on top of what's happening around town is nearly impossible. Restaurants, movies, bands, bars, art shows, classes, theatre, exhibits, shopping, cultural events in the New England area alone there are more than 50,000 upcoming activities referenced on over 200,000 web sites
Whether busy with work, school, or family, few of us have time to research things to do and find those hidden gems in the community. No doubt we'd all go out and enjoy new activities more if we knew what was available and trusted they would be great.
Zync was conceived of during the winter of 2006 to make it easier and faster to find the right stuff to do in your local area, and then go do it. The basic idea came to us – Brad, Dave and Josh – as we pondered why it took literally hours to research and plan local outings. We realized that local search engines produce mostly garbage unless you know what you're looking for, and the value of community review sites is marginal because most reviewers do not have similar tastes as you. The ideal system, we posited, would short-circuit this process by sifting through the thousands of options choosing insightful recommendations for you based on what you tend to like, and the trusted opinions of people like you.
So that's what we built. Zync employs patent pending algorithms that find like-minded people based on your ratings, profile, and a number of other factors, and make suggestions of local activities you might like based on those people's opinions. We wrapped that core concept with social networking functionality that enables you to receive opinions from your trusted friends."
Why it might be a killer
Since izync.com is restricted to only one location at the moment, there are many good recommendations. I live close to Boston and I would say the site does have good suggestions about where to eat, and places to go. izync.com is a site for everyone to use not just single people, there are recommendations on places to go trekking and free family activities.
Some questions
At the moment the only people who will be interested in using izync.com are people who are visiting or from the Boston area. Does Zync have any plans to add additional cities? There are other sites that give advice and recommendations on places to go to in Boston, how will izync.com deal with this competition?
