The Gawker empire has set loose another media monster called io9,a blog catering to you Sci-fi fans out there. The site design and construction is familiar to Gawker readers. The usual suspects are there: headlines, tags, and a blurb to whet your appetite should you choose to read more. The articles cover all sorts of sci-fi geekery and news, like the lastest on Hollywood’s sci-fi efforts, videogames, indie sci-fi movies,tv art, and your usual cultural ephemera. With the Gawkerbots, doing the talking there’s a lot being said, plenty of info, and with the comments section, there’s a chance for sci-fi fans to converge and communicate.

Or that work as we know it is about to end. io9 is the visionary watchdog who calls those charlatans on their shit. Gawker cannot be stopped. With the popularity of Gawker brother and sisters, like Deadspin and Gridskipper, io9 surely will have no problem finding an audience. Io9 is also mainstream readable enough for the less geek-inclined.
Will true geeks like the Gawker spin on sci-fi? Will it be too glib for the sci-fi fan who wants more indepth articles and a chance to have indepth discussion about their favorite sci-fi topic?
