HeyWhatsThat.com - Standing On Top Of The World

    heywhatsthat

“You hike to the top of a mountain or pull off at a scenic overlook. You see mountains in the distance. Which mountains are they?” This site asks that question – and it also provides you with a perfect answer by bringing you a 360º panoramic sketch complete with the names of the peaks and elevations that you are gazing at.

Furthermore, you can not only place panoramas’ requests of your own, but also view queries that other users have generated previously.

Also included is a tool which goes by the name of “Path Profiler”. As its name denotes, this particular tool will empower you to create a path and then generate its elevation profile. This particular tool is accompanied by a series of Mapplets for elevation contours and sea level rise.

Lastly, a Planisphere expands the night sky feature of Google Earth by adding information such as the position of the Sun and the Moon, as well as providing an azimuth grid.

As you can see for yourself, this is quite an interesting resource that will appeal both to casual web surfers and to people with an incurable longing for geographical data. You can reach it at the address which is supplied in the event you wish to see it in action for yourself.

Why it might be a killer

Both those with an active liking for geography and those who need information on the fly can benefit from such a service.

    Some questions

How is this actually implemented? Which information must you furnish?
