    GlobalMotion.com - The World's Place Database

If you've ever been bitten by the travel bug, you understand the value of the opinions and insight of other travelers. It's often beneficial to see pictures and read descriptions of cool places to see and interesting things to do in a certain location, right?.

The team that created GlobalMotion, a new travel website dedicated to building up the world's largest database of places, agrees. Build on a Wiki platform that lets travelers submit photos and descriptions of neat things they've seen and done in locations all over the world, GlobalMotion provides an interactive map that allows you search for neat places and contribute new content. To add a place, simply enter it into the search bar, locate it on the map provided (sponsored by Google Earth), and upload your photos and descriptions. Users can also modify existing locations by adding more content.

    Some questions about Globalmotion.com

Since the site relies entirely on user-generated content, GlobalMotion needs to promote itself more among the online community. As of now, the site only has about 480 locations, which seems disproportionate to its Alexa ranking (352,144). How will they publicize their site more? It would be great to know what is in store for GlobalMotion; are they planning on releasing more features like a discussion forum and personal profiles? Also, a widget or mobile device app would be great.

    Globalmotion.com In their own words

"GlobalMotion's goal is to describe the world's interesting locations. We can't do this alone, so we have built a Wiki platform that is optimized for locations and enables you to visually describe your favorite locations, anywhere in the world, using interactive maps, geotagged photos (either using GPS data, or by pointing and clicking on maps) and descriptions that anyone can edit".

Why Globalmotion.com might be a killer

InGlobal Motion's case, the whole is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. Their service synchronizes two powerful tools – the Wiki platform and Google Earth, which together deliver a veritable interactive, 3-D travel community. With some expansion and more we 2.0 features, Global Motion could rival Lonely Planet. I think that Global Motion has really got something here.
