Glassdoor.com - Secrets of the Well Paid (and You Too)

Ever wonder about how your salary stacks up compared to your peers? Or how about how much those geeky engineering types at Google or Microsoft make? Go to Glassdoor and you’ll find out. These days, it’s not so taboo to discuss salaries or working conditions. There are dozens of gossip sites that let you in on the luxuries and pitfalls of working at various media, publishing and tech companies. Glassdoor just makes it extremely easy to check out. So, take a look at Google, for instance, and you can see what employees earn and what sort of reviews employees give. There are only four companies up for free full reviews. After that, you have to pay to play, ie submit your own review to see other reviews. Everything is anonymous, of course.

  In their own words

“Glassdoor.com is building a career and workplace community where anyone can find and anonymously share real-time reviews, ratings and salary details about specific jobs for specific employers – for free.”

Why it might be a killer

Glassdoor is a boon for everyone. It makes the job market more transparent, provides a motive for change and honesty and it lets you know where you stand.

  Some questions

How do they weed out false reviews? Will users actually provide accurate, real info? Will they expand beyond the tech-sphere? Will this model of transparency work?
