    FreedomSpeaks.com - Get Political

    freedomspeaks

In light of the upcoming presidential elections and the ongoing heat of the democratic primaries, you may find yourself hearing, thinking, and talking about politics a lot more than usual lately. FreedomSpeaks.com offers you a place to take political action if the ballot box isn’t enough. It’s a free, non-partisan network for individuals, interest groups, and politicians, where you can discuss political topics, find information, and learn how to take action. This site will provide you with the name, website, and various means of contacting your elected officials, from your local alderman to your senator on Capitol Hill. Furthermore, Freedom Speaks will help you compose a letter to one or more of your elected officials about the issues you care about - whichever side you’re on - and with a few clicks, they will send out your letter via both email and fax.

FreedomSpeaks.com's homepage features "Most Active" lists, to show you the site's most popular Political News, Issues & Topics, Letters, and Citizens (members of FreedomSpeaks.com).

    In their own words

"The upcoming 2008 elections are said to be the most important to date given our world's situation. Issues like global warming and green initiatives, the conflict in Iraq, the tension our country faces with Iran, China and North Korea, our immigration policies, and even the slowdown of our once strong economy all play a role in who we decide will represent us to the world at large. Websites that bring these issues to light are great, and they do bring much needed attention. We feel, though, the only way to truly change how our country works is to communicate with those that represent us. How can we do that, you might ask? Simple - FREEDOMSPEAKS.COM."

Why it might be a killer

This site could serve as a hub for active citizenship, without having to visit the pages for individual politicians or interest groups representing each side of all the issues. If you are passionate about an issue you can use the discussion forums or draft letters to help convince others of your cause, but the site would be equally helpful to someone who is just looking for general information on an issue or their representatives.

    Some questions

Will this site add features like a Facebook app or integration with MySpace, Twitter, etc.? How about an RSS feed? Can members or interest groups suggest a new discussion topic or add a draft letter that does not fall into one of the existing categories? Could interest groups or politicians who pay to post profiles here wind up using it as a platform for publishing propaganda?
