DnaTube.com - Upload Your Scientifc Videos

    dnatube

Lately, there have been a lot of new category specific web 2.0 sites cropping up. You can now join networks which cater to your specific interests, enabling you to access material and discuss a common passion online. One such site is DnaTube, a scientific video community which lets users upload or search for science-related clips to the site, make a personal profile, and join groups. Begin by creating an account and creating your profile, from their, you can run a keyword, category, user, or university search (most members are affiliated with an institution). The site appears to focus largely on biochemistry and biology, although nowhere on the site (except for the title) is it alluded to that videos must be pertinent to those subcategories of science.

    In their own words

"DnaTube is a scientific research site providing video based studies, lecturers and seminars. Our goal is to contribute science by generating self-growing community who shares their scientific experiences. Most of DnaTube members are graduate students from universities of all countries".

Why it might be a killer

If you're looking for scientific videos, DnaTube is a great way to find them. It's search method is really unique; the "University" feature in particular is helpful since often scientists would want to look for videos related to research done at a certain institution. Similarly, this same function is a great way for scientists to network across the educational community; it's a good way of seeing who else is out there and what they are doing.

    Some questions

Does DnaTube only accept videos having to do with biochemistry and/or biology? The title would point to that, but the site's tagline is simple, "Scientific video site", so how do we know what type of content the site is aiming to acquire? Absent also is a heartier "About us" section; who created this site and why? In a scientific community full of detail-conscious, inquisitive individuals, it really should be made clear who is responsible for the site and what credentials they have.
