ColorWar2008.com - May the Best Team Win

Feeling reminiscent for the fun, campy competitions of your childhood? Tug o’ War, potato sack races, tetherball, etc.? ColorWar2008.

com is a site that aims to bring the campy, youthful competitiveness of a summer Color War onto the ultimate adult playground – the Internet. You join a team through Twitter, by ‘following’ your team of choice, or you can register your own team at ColorWar2008.com and wait for others to sign on. There have already been over 175 teams registered, a few boasting over 300 members, and one with over a thousand. You can suggest your own event or jump in on one that’s already running. Many of the events are carried out off the site, and then you return to the site to post a video, photo, etc. of your entry. Events include a Google Street View Scavenger Hunt, Merit Badge Making, and the “Broom Game,” which requires submitting a video of yourself holding a broom above your head, spinning around 30 times, throwing the broom to the ground, and jumping over it. There are deadlines for each event, winners (Gold, Bronze, and Silver) are announced, and prizes are awarded. Aside from the main competition, teams can present challenges to rival teams.

    Colorwar2008.com/ In their own words

"The world is our tetherball court."

    "It’s just like summer camp.

    *not really"

Why Colorwar2008.com/ might be a killer

A lot of users have already gotten involved with the Color War so it seems to have a lot of appeal and some successful word-of-mouth and viral marketing going on. The site already has some sponsors signed on, including big name JetBlue.

    Some questions about Colorwar2008.com/

How many of the people who signed up for a team via Twitter are actually participating in the challenges and submitting entries? What are the prizes involved and how are they distributed amongst everyone in a team? Or are they only awarded to those team members who actually enter a specific event?
