BlogActionDay.org - Blog To Save The Environment

If you ask anyone what some of the most pressing issues facing society today are, the degradation of the environment is likely to be mentioned. In response to worsening global conditions, a team of three blogging website creators have joined efforts to promote Blog Action Day, which will take place October 15th of this year. The idea behind this event is to have authors of blogging websites pledge to write about environmental issues on this particular date, or contribute a cut of their advertising revenue to a nonprofit environmental organization of their choosing. The organizers of Blog Action Day themselves will not profit from this event at all; bloggers deal directly with the charities in regards to financial donations. From now on, this event will be taking place every year. To sign up your blog, visit the site and click on “Get involved”.

  In their own words

“On October 15th - Blog Action Day, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone's mind.

In its inaugural year, Blog Action Day will be co-ordinating bloggers to tackle the issue of the environment”

Why it might be a killer

Blog Action Day is a unique and modern way to get people thinking about important issues in today’s society. While movies and books like “An Inconvenient Truth” and “Collapse” have helped raise awareness about environmental degradation, it’s time we sought out a means of disseminating knowledge via internet communication.

  Some questions

If the site itself makes no profit, how can they expect to publicize their event successfully? Why limit this event to only blog authors, why not expand to include other online publications like The Onion? Why not try and get Facebookers and MySpace users involved in some way?
