Bessed.com is a search engine which is part of a new and increasingly popular way of searching which aim to “humanize” query results. Instead of the search being performed entirely by bots, Bessed adds a blogging element to its site which allows people to comment on search results. In turn, these comments help refine and filter search results to make them more relevant. If you feel a particular link was not helpful, tell everyone, and it will be removed if others confirm its irrelevancy. Basically, it’s a “the more you give, the more you get concept”, i.e., the site’s ability to turn out good search results depends almost entirely on the participation of its users.

Bessed.com capitalizes upon what could be the next big thing in search engines – putting the search entirely in the hands of the searchers. The concept of the search-and-blog makes the search experience a lot more personal; something that will definitely appeal to anyone alienated by the robot-ization of traditional search engines.

Since the site is new, it doesn’t work very well yet. I tried several basic search terms, and only got a few relevant results. Clearly the site needs more users to make more comments to incite more revisions; right now, it just won’t compete with larger, more well-known search engines.
