BarkleyandPaws.com - Online Pet-Zine

Barkley and Paws is a new searchable online monthly magazine about your pets that also offers some web 2.0 features. Here, you can search for (tag or keyword) and read articles about your furry, feathered, and scaly friends (the site focuses on cats, dogs, birds, and fish), as well as create a personal profile to join the community and participate in pet related forums and groups. The articles cover a wide variety of topics, from "Setting Up Your First Fishtank" to "Dog Road Safety". Like other communities, you can also upload and comment on photos and videos of your pets (though you'll need to be a registered user to do this). Registered users may also create their own pet-themed blogs. You can also check out the "Vet" section for pet health advice (though right now this section only focuses on cats and dogs), and you can browse topics for relevant information.

Why it might be a killer

Barkley and Paws could be a good, easily accessible resource for pet owners who want find information about a certain topic (especially pet health care) quickly and without much hassle.

  Some questions

Right now, there aren't a lot of site users, and consequently there aren't many photos, blogs, videos, etc. It's not clear whether the site has an in-print version available; this would be a good means of disseminating information about the new site. The site doesn't really feel like a community yet since there doesn't' seem to be any way for users to interact with each other; does the site plan on expanding its web 2.0 elements to allow you to make and communicate with other members? The veterinary section may or may not be legitimate; article author names do not appear with credentials; are these posts written by actual vets?

Thanks ... your right I missed that. By the way, there are ways for user communication. There is a private email system (see the tab for inbox) and you can also make "Connections" (see the tab for that also) so that you can connect to other members of the site. The advanced profile search allows you to find people (or pets!) with common interest. As always, your comments are very helpful.Regards!

Mark,I did mention in the first section that you may join groups and forums. In the "Questions" section, I suggest that there be more direct ways of communicating, like user-to-user messages and the ability to add friends. Thanks for your comment.

Actually there are several ways for members to communicate in the site. Check out the ability to build your own public or private groups. Members can create groups around any topic (pets, rescue centers, support groups for the death of a pet, and so on). Thanks!
