Artlog.com - An Art Catalog

Artlog is a site that focuses on art and where you can go to see it. Artlog has many features such as: a catalog, portfolios, social network, ad highlights. The catalog section has a list of all of the opening and closing art exhibits. The exhibits are listed by title, artist and date and are usually accompanied by an image. When you click on an exhibit you get more detailed information such as: the address, directions, hours, contact information along with more media a description and an area to add comments. You can also get information on maps and other venues. If you are an artist Artlog gives you a great way to display your work by creating your own portfolio. Users can upload unlimited images and galleries and update their site from anywhere. Users can also customize the design of their portfolio and blogs, resumes and a custom domain name. Users interested in specific artists can browse through their portfolio and see an artists work. The social network is a great way to meet people with similar interests and of course network, you have no idea who you will meet and who may be interested in your work. The focus section highlights events and art that is recent. Artlog offers many ways for people to connect and see great art.

  In their own words

"Artlog is about connecting people through art & design.
You can break the Artlog idea into four basic parts
- Catalog: Discover new museums, galleries, alternative spaces and not-to-be-missed exhibitions, parties, openings and lectures
- People: The social layer tying the other parts together
- Focus: Tumblelog- Quick way to stay current
- Portfolios: Allow users to manage their own websites through the Artlog app"

Why it might be a killer

Artlog has a busy but attractive layout with a great deal of information. Artlog has features that benefit users interested in attending events along with artists. The network is a great way for users to connect and learn more about art in their community. The catalog is a great tool and each event has detailed information which helps inform the user. The Lightbox is a great feature instead of searching for your favorite content you can go to one place to find your bookmarks.

  Some questions

Artlog seems to focus on galleries in New York, LA and San Francisco, it would be great to include galleries in other cities and to be able to search for galleries by city. There are other sites that have similar features, how will Artlog deal with competition?
