Amiado.de - Swiss, No Frills Social Network

Amiado is a simple, Switzerland-based social network that aims to help you keep in touch with your old friends while helping you to make new ones. The site currently doesn’t offer a lot of information about its services, but it appears that the site functions like the majority of social networks out there which allow you to create a personal profile, friend other users, message across the site, and maintain an address/contact book. Amiado also lets its users create their own blogs, a feature which is often absent from other similar sites. Your actions on the site are easily managed by a set of tabs on the top of the interface (myMessages, myFriends, myBlog, myProfile, and myLog). To access all of Amiado’s features, you’ll need to sign up, naturally. To the benefit of us English speakers out there, although Amiado’s main interface language is German, there’s an English site as well.

Amiado seems like it would be a good option for anyone in German-speaking European countries to easily interact with friends without too many frills (considering how weighted down with apps some social networks are become these days).

It’s hard to gauge exactly how Amiado will function and whether it will be able (or is even trying to) compete with larger social networks. Europe already has a large presence on Facebook, and I think it’s unlikely that a humble site like Amiado would be able to draw users away.
