AlternativeEnergy is a new site with a focus on energy, specifically, alternative energy sources, of course. Content is provided by the site’s editors as well as you the user. What’s most notable about the site, is how they’ve latched on to just about every social networking and modern internet fixture out there. They’ve got the usual videos, photos, and shopping sections. There’s a separate area for gadgets, which may not have a whole lot to do with the environment, but which are still pretty handy apps—there’s a gadget for Last.fm , Scramble, Moviemates, Orkut and even PoshMamas among other things. AlternativeEnergy also has a job board, RSS feeds, and discussion forums. Interestingly they offer coaching for those of us who need a little help being more green. Be sure too, to check out the election trail as AlternativeEnergy follows the candidates and their takes on being green.

AlternativeEnergy is up to date—it takes advantage of popular internet tools and customs which gives it more of a modern and edgy feel. The state of the environment is something we all need to be concerned with and it’s only appropriate with elections around the corner that this site rallies together people to get something down.
Any chance of there being a design overhaul? While the site is informative, some might find it too dry and aesthetically unappealing. Will it be able to gain a foothold? Or is it overreaching itself?
