360Cities.net - The New VR Travel Guide

Welcome to the new travel guide, virtual reality style. We all are familiar with the standard text and photo travel guide: they’re all cut and paste with 2-d photography and pages and pages of text. They’re helpful, certainly, but lack a certain something. 360 Cities wants to change this. Using new technologies and taking advantage of the widening use of broadband internet, 360 Cities has created a travel guide that’s immersive and interactive. It’s virtual reality.. 360 Cities uses Virtual Reality photography to give you a 360 degree panorama view of an image, be it a street scene, a café, a museum or a neighborhood. Moreover, 360 Cities makes use of Google Earth so you can simply fly around the world and stop wherever you want to get a little taste of what it’s like there. 360 Cities provides an aerial view of each city via Google Earth, as well as VR photographs with map options. Each place has a number of options to explore ranging from life, to restaurants, to attractions. Immerse yourself in the world.

  In their own words

“Travel guides until recently, whether in printed form or on the web, have been the standard place to start for travellers planning a trip. But new developments in interactive visualization as well as wide-scale use of broadband internet have created new possibilities for travelling the world in immersive form. Although we now possess the technology to open up and step inside images and experience them in an exciting, new way, few websites currently exploit this opportunity.”
