Zend.com - Making PHP Business Friendly

    zend

Zend is the PHP company. Their goal is to up the usage of PHP for business development. Currently, many enterprises employ JAVA or .NET to build web services. However they aren’t particularly known for being easy to use even for experienced pros. Zend, is therefore pushing the use of PHP, which is already used by over 20 million domains. The company seeks to leverage those numbers by offering a platform for operating PHP applications. It supports performance, management, integration and the scalability requirements of any enterprise. They also offer consulting, training and support along with PHP development tools. Businesses will benefit in being able to put together quality apps quickly and without much ado.

    In their own words

Zend Technologies is the leading provider of products and services for developing, deploying and managing business-critical PHP applications. Our mission is to provide solutions that make PHP a viable language for large-scale enterprise development. Deployed at more than 20,000 customers worldwide, Zend’s product suite provides a comprehensive platform for supporting the entire PHP application lifecycle.

Why it might be a killer

Zend has already established itself as a hub for PHP development. They have ties with major companies like Google and Microsoft. They already have a large existing client base of 20,000 customers. Their platform offers a means for companies to build durable applications rapidly, which is difficult to do with JAVA etc. Zend allows developers to create mashups using Google API’s and they’re developing a plug-in for the OpenID system for easier use.

    Some questions

There are now more popular frameworks like Ruby on Rails; PHP use seems to have stalled. Will companies take to it? Are developers willing to work with it extensively?
