    Veropedia.com - Verified Wikipedia Articles

    veropedia

Throughout college, I frequently used Wikipedia while doing research for papers, but there was always the chance that the information wasn't credible since it is all user added. Often, teachers wouldn't let you use the site as a resource. Veropedia is aiming to solve this problem. They are verifying Wikipedia articles one at a time with the help of knowledgeable experts on each topic and making them so that they cannot be edited once cleaned up. They make sure all links, pictures, and information are accurate so that the original Wikipedia articles are credible. So far they have 3,952 "Verofied" articles available. Currently, all articles are in English, but they are planning on adding other languages in the future.

    In their own words

"Veropedia is a collaborative effort by a group of Wikipedians to collect the best of Wikipedia's content, clean it up, vet it, and save it for all time. These articles are stable and cannot be edited, The result is a quality stable version that can be trusted by students, teachers, and anyone else who is looking for top-notch, reliable information."

Why it might be a killer

Being able to know that the information being delivered is actually credible makes it possible to use Wikipedia articles in research and for actual citations. This will definitely be beneficial to students and others looking for true information from the site.

    Some questions

Finding what you're looking for on the site is a bit difficult. Will they fix the search function so that you can find the articles you are looking for more easily, instead of for instance no search results or multiple word entries having underscores that make it hard to read and see what you'd like to check out? How will they be able to keep up with the tons of information that is constantly being added to Wikipedia? Will the minimal advertising be enough to pay for all of the labor that will be required?
