UpdateScanner is a Firefox extension that monitors specified web pages for you and lets you know whenever they have been updated. You can use UpdateScanner in place of an RSS reader, or in conjunction with one, so that you can stay updated even on pages that don’t provide Atom or RSS feeds. Once you have installed the UpdateScanner extension, you can add pages that you would like the program to monitor from the right-click drop-down menu when you are viewing the page from Firefox. You can set preferences such as how often you want to check for updates, and whether minor updates should be ignored. You are notified of changes by a small arrow in the bottom right corner of your screen, which changes colors when there are updates. Click on the arrow to display the UpdateScanner sidebar, which will show the updated sites in bold. You can click on a site in the sidebar to visit it, where you will find updates highlighted in yellow.
