Universe.lego.com - Multiplayer Game for Lego Lovers

Lego is arguably Europe’s most famous contribution to the game world and the plastic blocks will soon make up a new multiplayer online interactive game as well. Lego Universe, which according to the folks at Lego is still a work in progress, will allow people to join up and become a part of a virtual Lego inspired world.

The Lego characters will be prevalent in this online world along with the instantly recognizable blocks. People will be able to sign up and create an online version of themselves and then interact in a world made of Lego. Players will be able to collect coins that can be used to purchase bricks for building. Since it is a work in progress, Lego is also giving anyone the chance to contribute to the game’s development by making suggestions on features they would like to see added.

“I can’t tell everything about the game just yet, but maybe I can give you some hints… Aside from just playing games or trading and socializing, the story allows minifigs to team up—and that’s when the real adventuring begins. A few years ago it seemed that Lego was losing a popularity contest to computer games and that it had become dated. This of course is not the case, the Lego brand is recognized around the world for quality and fun, something that Lego Universe will almost certainly contain as well. Look for this one to become a highly popular and addictive addition to the Lego empire.

A lot is still up in the air due to the fact that the game is not yet playable. Will it be appealing to adults, or is it aimed entirely at children? Will the Lego brand be enough of a hand to make this game an instant hit?
